When I try to enter W2 information I get an error message saying, "No payer types have been activated for this filer yet. Before you can create a W2 you must update your Filer/Employer record and check at least one payer type". What does this mean and what do I do?
This message is telling you that you have not yet selected what type of filer your employer will be. Go to the General Options Tab and click on filers. Click on the filer of your choice and then click on CHANGE. Look at the tabs across the top of the box. Now click on W-2 Specific Information. Only those payer types checked will be available to the filer for creating W-2s. if the filer has a SSN, the W-2 Specific Information tab is ghosted. (A filer must have an EIN to issue a W-2.)
After I install the program it will will not let me open it when I click on the ICON
Check to see what operating system & printer you are using. If you are using XP or 2000 and an Epson C80 Series printer follow these directions:
The Epson C80 series of print drivers seem to prevent TFP or Laser Link from starting up. This problem is not limited to a particular Operating System as it has been observed in both XP Home and Windows 2000. When an Epson Printer is the default printer and you double click to initiate the software you'll see the hour glass and then nothing. Pressing on CTRL ALT DEL shows that the program is a task that is running but not responding. Attempting to view the properties by right clicking on the Epson C80 series printer produces no results. The tax software and the printer driver are both frozen. Going into the Task Manager and terminating TFP or Laser Link will then allow the printer properties to show up.
